ETHICS & THE ARTS

This courage is required of both the creator of the art and the viewer of the work. The courage required to create and to engage with art can be used as momentum for moving forward in addressing the issues found within art.
The Emory University Center for Ethics announces its 2010 Ethics & the Arts Initiative. The goal of Ethics & the Arts is to encourage ethical dialogue and debate through and about the arts, and to partner with signature Atlanta Community organizations to demonstrate the way art challenges our perspectives. The production of art, its role in public conversation, its preservation, and its presentation all provoke us to confront ethical challenges, sometimes in startling new ways. The Center for Ethics sees art as central to its mission to Igniting the Moral Imagination of 21st Century Leaders.TM
Ethics & the Arts Initiative
- To establish a platform for multidisciplinary artistic expression Emory University campus
- To Partner with key constituents in order to include the Atlanta Community
- To educate students, visitors, stakeholders, and faculty about the role of arts social change
- To teach and promote Atlanta high culture to the Emory Community, visiting students groups, Atlanta public schools, and other Universities.
- To build bridges in music, painting, sculpture, dance, theatre, film in order to reach new generations
- To highlight are as a fundamental vehicle for ethical inquiry and social change.
- To support artists trying to encourage ethical conversation with their art, such as Carlton Mackey, a Center for Ethics staff member and winner of a Center for Creativity and the Arts grant to co-produce the film, 17 Degrees Ain't Nothing.
