John Banja was recently notified that a grant application he helped prepare will be funded by the Agency For Health Care Research and Quality. The grant was awarded to the Georgia Hospital Association, which subcontracted its implementation (as well as the original writing) to the Kerr L. White Institute for Health Services Research.
The focus of the grant is to study best practices for a state-wide system of medical error reporting and disclosure. Banja will primarily gather data on barriers to error disclosure in hospital settings as well as identify and describe strategies that comply with ethical and legal norms in error disclosure.
In a related note, Banja was notified this summer that he had been appointed to the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC). The CCMC is the sponsor of the credentialing process that has been developed for case manager certification.
Case managers are employed by both insurance companies as well as clinical facilities so as to manage the overall course of a client’s care given the benefit structure of the individual’s insurance plan. Over 20,000 individuals are currently certified by the CCMC. Banja will be serving on both the appeals and the certification compliance review subcommittees.
