The D. Abbott Turner Program in Ethics and Servant Leadership is proud to celebrate the conclusion of its fifth year of programming and to announce the opening of applications for the 2004-2005 EASL Forum.
The 2004-2005 academic year of programming will build upon the developments in the last year’s program under the leadership of Edward Queen and Kate O’Dwyer Randall and with the assistance of Kim Gardner.
The past year has passed like a whirlwind, leaving in its wake a major new volunteer opportunity, MetroVision (a mentoring program at the Fulton County juvenile center), and several new partners for the summer internship program.
During the academic year, students participating in the EASL Forum will have the opportunity to explore the important themes that lie at the core of the program—ethics, vocational development, servant leadership formation, and community commitments.
During its weekly meetings on Monday nights, the Forum provides a structured and interactive environment where the participants can develop their leadership and management skills, struggle with the process of ethical decision-making, explore the questions of personal development and the meaning of vocation, and engage in valuable and productive community service.
The Forum also gives students opportunities for conversation with community servant leaders and social entrepreneurs from a variety of sectors, including business, medicine, nonprofits, and the arts.
More than ever, society needs responsible young leaders to revitalize and transform existing institutions, organizations and ways of thinking, and to create new ones as well. Servant Leadership is a leadership model that emphasizes service to others, a holistic approach to work, community-building, and shared decision-making. The EASL Forum focuses on developing such leaders.
Applications for the EASL Forum are now available online and are due by September 16 (extended deadline).
Edward, Kate, and Kim want to express their gratitude to all the community partners, Emory colleagues, and Emory students who have embodied the program’s vision of serving and leading for the common good and to say we look forward to another exciting year. Additionally, we encourage individuals to recommend Emory students to the program.
