2005 faculty seminar: The ethics of wealth?

By John Banja. Each year, the Center for Ethics hosts a seminar for Emory faculty on some topic of considerable ethical interest. The 2005 topic will be “The Ethics of Money/The Ethics of Wealth.” The seminar will occur May 18-27, 2005.

Although we have collected a number of topical ideas, we’re interested in whatever thoughts and suggestions you might have regarding speakers, readings, and presentations.

We’re presently considering:

  • The ethics of taxation and tax reform
  • Wealth redistribution and the poor
  • Philanthropy
  • Do the wealthy deserve it?
  • Wealth and the environment
  • Wealth, politics and democracy
  • Wealth and corruption

Previous seminar topics have included neuro-ethics, the moral self, and the formational qualities of higher education. Seminar participants are awarded a small honorarium. Approximately fifteen Emory faculty members participate each year.

We’re interested in hearing from you. Please email any thoughts or suggestions you might have to John Banja.
