UPGRADE: Undergraduate Program in Global Research and Development

UPGRADE is a joint program between The Office of International and Summer Programs (OISP) and EASL.  UPGRADE provides a grant for Emory College students who wish to gain practical hands-on training in sustainable development by undertaking service programs in developing countries during the summer months.  This non-credit bearing program provides students with the opportunity to undertake an international educational experience emphasizing service and focuses on students with a distinct set of skills and experiences.  In country supervision and training will be done through the Foundation for Sustainable Development. The Director of EASL, Edward Queen, provides ongoing supervision of the learning component during the summer and oversees the final debrief upon the students return.  Administrative oversight is handled by OISP.

Service Abroad

The UPGRADE program requires students to have undertaken a course of study that shows a commitment to and understanding of development and international issues.  It also requires a demonstrated commitment to service.  Students interested in UPGRADE, therefore, should contact Ebony Ellis (OISP) for additional details and advice.
