Ira K. Schwartz, Associate Dean for Medical Education and Students Affairs, is a pediatrician with sub-specialty training in infectious diseases. Following his initial clinical education at Children’s Memorial Hospital/Northwestern University Medical Center, he worked for the International Rescue Committee in rural Thailand, and then moved to Atlanta in 1981 to accept a position at the US Centers for Disease Control as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer in the Division of Parasitic Diseases. Since 1992, he has been on the faculty at Emory University School of Medicine and the Rollins School of Public Health.
