Caroline Anglim

Caroline Anglim holds a BA summa cum laude from Maryville College in Maryville, TN and went on to complete an MA and PhD in Religious Ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School. She now serves as Assistant Professor in Bioethics at Emory University’s Center for Ethics and School of Medicine.

Her scholarship sits at the intersection of religious ethics, bioethics, and medical education, with published work appearing in journals such as the American Journal of Bioethics, Journal of Rural Health, Journal of Interprofessional Care, and Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics. She also co-edited the volume Religion and Social Criticism: Tradition, Method, and Values (Springer Nature, 2024). Dr. Anglim presents regularly at the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities national conference, and in recent years she has also presented at the Academy for Professionalism in Health Care and MacLean Fellows Conference on Clinical Medical Ethics. Additionally, she has served for several years on the planning committee for the Healthcare Ethics Consortium’s annual meeting at Emory University.

Dr. Anglim has extensive teaching experience: she has taught an integrated bioethics curriculum to pre-clinical and clinical medical students, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in religious studies and ethics. She has co-developed several innovative education programs for medical students, including an interprofessional ethics simulation with nursing students, a graduate certificate in Bioethics and Medical Humanities, and a spiritual needs assessment training program. Building on this work in medical education, she served as a Sperry Fellow at Dartmouth College in 2024-25, mentoring undergraduate student research. She has also served as the principal investigator on extramural grants from Interfaith America, as well as on several institutional research and teaching grants.

Beyond the university, Dr. Anglim is a certified healthcare ethics consultant and has served as an ethics committee member at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon, GA, where she has also provided healthcare ethics training to professionals. She has additionally served on a trial safety and monitoring board for a national research study and as a reviewer for several journals related to bioethics, religion, and health.

In recognition of her work, Dr. Anglim has received institutional awards for teaching, service, and the promotion of faith relations, and she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society in 2026.
