Ethics at the Movies

Ethics at the Movies is our documentary screening series, featuring in-person post-film conversations with members of creative teams, engaging students and the Atlanta community in critical dialogue about ethics, storytelling, and social issues through a free annual film series. Ethics at the Movies has screened over 40 films and brought such distinguished guest artists as Peabody Award winning filmmaker Judith Helfand; photographer and filmmaker Ansley West; Regina Kelly, the inspiration behind the film American Violet; and Foreign Press Association Journalist of the Year Award and Peabody Award winner Saeed Kamali Dehghan, among others.

Sabbath Queen

Wednesday, Sept 9, 7:00 pm, Center for Ethics, Room 102. Twenty-one years in the making, Sabbath Queen follows Amichai Lau-Lavie’s journey from radical drag queen to influential Rabbi of a God-optional, artist-driven New York synagogue. Q&A with Director/Producer Sandi DuBowski to follow screening.

Riverkeeper

Thursday, October 1 at 7:00 pm, Center for Ethics, Room 102. Dr. Jackie Echols, enviro-activist, joins a sprawling grassroots resistance movement to protect the land and people in response to Atlanta's plan to clearcut forest to build a police training facility. She reveals the overlooked pattern of environmental racism while confronting polluters, bureaucrats, and systemic neglect in the American South. Q&A with Dr. Jacqueline Echols to follow.

When DREAMER Sam Ramirez-Herrera returns to Mexico after 30 years away, her journey brings her face to face with the trauma of her family's past. On the eve of The Day of The Dead, she explores her fractured identity through the lens of the “American Dream” and the home she left behind.
