William Sexson is a pediatrician, neonatologist and ethicist. He currently serves as Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs of Emory University School of Medicine on the Grady campus. Dr Sexson has worked and taught actively in the areas of legislative and child advocacy and public policy development for over 20 years. He has been an advisor to Georgia Medicaid and to State health planning, the Georgia Council on Maternal and Infant Health and was president of the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. In this latter role, the Chapter won a national award from the AAP for state-level advocacy work and organizational development.

In 2014 Dr Sexson completed the Master of Arts in Bioethics program and was awarded an MAB degree by Emory’s Center for Ethics. For over 20 years he chaired the Grady Clinical Ethics Committee and currently serves on the CHOA Ethics Committee. He is an ethics consultant to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is passionate about social justice and has worked and taught ethics internationally as the Associate Director of the Global Collaborating Center in Reproductive Health and as the course director of a number of international conferences on bioethics. He is the founder of Emory’s Urban Health Initiative which works with the community to develop collaborative models for addressing the “social determinants of health” in inner-city Atlanta. Dr Sexson is widely published in neonatology and ethics. Additionally, he plays guitar in a folk-bluegrass-gospel group which focuses on community support and fund raising opportunities for charitable organizations
