International Bioethics

With pilot funding from the University’s Global Health Initiative, our faculty research group continues work in international bioethics. On April 23, 2008 the Center hosted a working Summit on International Bioethics.  The Summit included faculty from Emory and Georgia Tech and included talks from Dr. Solomon Benatar from University of Capetown and Dr. Elizabeth Heitman from Vanderbilt along with local faculty.  Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, current Member of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, and past deputy ministers of health and defense, joined us at the Summit.  Models for strategic growth that we examined included: educational capacity building; research; and policy models.  Faculty are currently writing a series of papers for a symposium issue on international bioethics for the HEC Forum journal.

Collaborative Educational Program in Bioethics (CEPB): A Cross Cultural Exchange with Russian Healthcare Leaders

With key leadership from Dr. Alfred Brann, Professor of Pediatrics (Neonatology), the Center for Ethics has partnered with a delegation from Russia and the Moscow Oblast to explore common themes and differences in bioethics. Other program collaborators at Emory include the Halle Institute and the Russian and East Asian Languages and Culture and the Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning.
